CANCER AND THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

The American Cancer Society is the richest charity in the world with assets of over $1.3 billion. Their executives in several states earn 6 figure salaries, including fringe benefits, travel expenses and pensions. After extravagant salaries, overhead and marketing, the rest of their budget goes to “research”, much of it spent on fraudulent animal experimentation which cannot be extrapolated to human beings but is a huge part of Big Pharma’s multi-billion dollar vivisection industry. Over 35 billion dollars have been spent on animal experimentation in search of a cancer cure in spite of the fact that vivisectors know that finding a cure to cancer by torturing animals is scientifically impossible. Nevertheless, The Cancer Society continues to solicit donations purporting to be looking for a “cure” which is always “just around the corner” if only the public will give them more money.

Even though it is highly illegal, ACS is the only charity allowed to lobby Congress and spends an average of $5 million in lobbying expenses.

Contrary to claims by the American Cancer Society, The National Cancer Institute and The Center for Disease Control that incidences of cancer have decreased, the opposite is true. According to NCI’s own data, cancer rates increased dramatically in 2011:

• 104 percent in liver cancer
• 88 percent in prostate cancer
• 54 percent in thyroid and testicular cancer
• 29 percent in breast cancer
• 14 per cent in brain cancer
• Childhood cancers increased an alarming 32 percent between 1975 and 2000
• Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in children, second only to accidents
• The over-all mortality rates remain unchanged but has increased 6 percent in African-Americans

In violation of the 1971 National Cancer Act, ACS and NCI refuse to inform the public regarding avoidable causes of cancer, including:

• Environmental contaminants in air, water, soil, the workplace and food
• Carcinogenic ingredients in consumer products like pesticides, personal care products and cosmetics
• Carcinogenic prescription drugs, high dose diagnostic radiation including pediatric CAT scans

ACS has close ties with the petrochemical/pharmaceutical industry and board members include executives of mammogram companies, the president of Lederle Laboratories/American Cyanamid and the CEO of Amgen, producer of the chemotherapy drug Neupogen.

The relationship between ACS and Amgen is the quintessential example of the hypocrisy of ACS, and reinforces claims by critics that ACS has no interest whatsoever in a cure to cancer but is only interested in making money---the higher the cancer rates, the more money Amgen makes from their drug Neupogen.

ACS continues to dispute studies that have concluded that mammograms can cause cancer, do not increase breast cancer survival rates and that false positive diagnoses are resulting in healthy women being given toxic therapies which harm and sometimes result in death. Their close ties to the mammogram industry drives their relentless campaigns to encourage all women, young and old to have mammograms.

Their relationship with AstraZeneca caused them to recruit 16,000 perfectly healthy women to take part in a 5 year clinical trial of a highly toxic drug tamoxifen in spite of the fact that it can cause uterine cancer.

Formation of the ACS Foundation allows ACS to receive donations in excess of $100,000. Among the $100K plus donors are producers of carcinogenic products:

• Petrochemical Companies – DuPont, BP and Penzoil
• Industrial Waste Companies – BFI Waste Systems
• Junk Food Companies – Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Unilever/Best Foods, Coca-Cola
• Big Pharma – AstraZeneca, Bristol Myers Squibb, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck & Company, Novartis
• Biotech Companies – Amgen, Genentech
• Cosmetic Companies – Christian Dior, Avon, Revlon, Elizabeth Arden, Estee Lauder
• Auto Companies – Nissan, General Motors

DuPont, a leading mammography company as well as a producer of toxic and carcinogenic chemicals is a sponsor of the ACS Breast Health Awareness Program. AstraZeneca, a massive polluter and producer of carcinogens, founded Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

ACS spends approximately 2 percent of their budget on prevention,

ACS denied for decades that smoking causes cancer, changing their stance only when statistics and medical and overwhelming public opinion forced them to do so.

Obstruction of ACS in admitting causes of cancer has been going on for many years. Some of the instances are:

• 1970 - Refused to testify in front of Congress to require the FDA to ban DES
• 1977 – Called for a moratorium on the FDA’s proposed ban on saccharin
• 1977-1978 – Opposed regulations for cancer-causing hair coloring products
• 1978 – Refused to support occupational safety standards
• 1978 – Censured by Congressman Paul Rogers for failing to support the Clean Air Act
• 1983 – Refused to join a coalition to support the Clean Air Act
• 1992 – In conjunction with a pesticide manufacturer, refused to support stopping the usage of organochlorine pesticides despite clear evidence they caused breast cancer
• 1993 - Attacked a FRONTLINE report on PBS which informed the public of the dangers of pesticides and related cancer cluster leukemia cases in communities affected by pesticides. ACS called the PBS report “junk science” and a “costly waste”. A shocked and outraged producer at PBS accused ACS of “flakking for the agrichemical industry”.
• 1994 – Published a highly flawed study designed to trivialize cancer risks from the use of dark hair dyes.

ACS has waged a continuous war on alternative therapies because they conflict with the products produced by their Big Pharma sponsors. ACS formed a committee on “unproven methods” comprised of supporters of toxic therapies and drug companies. They call doctorswho use alternative cures to cancer “quacks” then blackball them and do everything they can to put them out of business.

When the U.S. government’s The Office of Technology Assessment published a report indentifying 200 promising alternative therapies, ACS remained resistant and hostile and continued to persecute doctors like Dr. Burzynski and attack and denigrate the Hoxsey therapy and many other therapies which are healing people of cancer.
